This was the first time I attached
the horizontal stab and elevator. I
wanted to determine where the
stick was at straight and level. My
assumption was affirmed that the
stick is too far forward when the
elevator is level. I will probably
trim the elevator push rod to
make it right. It was fun to have
this control work ...helps out with
airplane noises.
I ran into a small bump in the road
when I found that two of the pin
tabs on the elevator didn't line up
well with the tabs on the stab. I
called Murle Williams and he said
he found this to be fairly common.
Mine was off about 1/16 to 3/32. He
directed me to start inboard and
get the two center pins in first.
Then, moving outboard, pry the
tabs into place. After a little work
and with the assistance of my
navigator (Wendy), we succeeded
in the mission. Picture is a little
fuzzy, but you can see how tight
that center tab is over to the right.
The elevator works fine. Next to trim
the push rod to the correct size.
